February 24-27
In Nature/Science we will add more crickets to our terrarium and practice making observations about their behavior. (Will the female crickets lay eggs in the damp sand? Will the male crickets show aggression? Have they begun to chirp? Will they raise their wings, rock their bodies, or claw at the sand?) We will continue to read about crickets, grasshoppers, and katydids, and learn how each species makes its own unique sound.
In Social Studies we will read about the schools and churches of the early colonies. We will also read about the animals that the families kept as pets.
In Phonics/Language we will read "The Three Pigs" and practice sequencing the story. The children will work to identify words that begin with "p". They will practice sorting objects beginning with "o" and "p" into letter tubs. We will also practice matching pictures of rhyming words such as pig, dig, wig, twig and big.
In Music/Art we will play a game with beanbags as we listen to "The Little black Bull" by Pete Seeger. We will practice skipping to "Skip to My Lou" from "Birds, Beasts, Bugs, and Fishes" by Pete Seeger. We are also planning to spend time outside in the gazebo working on colorful sketches of Gerber Daisies.
In Bible we will read from 1 Kings 17:1-6 about how God sent the birds to feed Elijah. We will act out the story with puppets. We will also read Always There Is God.
