February 18-20
This week in Nature/Science the children will spend time making observations about a single cricket (Does he chirp? What is he doing? Does he take cover? Does he show any courtship behavior? Does he eat and drink?) We will read “Crickets, Grasshoppers, and Katydids” in Exploring Creation. We will plant garlic and seed potatoes into our garden. We will also read “You See With Your Eyes” and create a 3-D Hologram with a “Mirage” maker.
In Social Studies we will read about the gardens and plantations of Williamsburg, and learn about what the people liked to eat. We will also learn about how food was kept from spoiling.
In Bible, we will read “Diligence at School” from A Child’s Book of Character Building. We are also planning to read about Elijah and how he was diligent in his work for God.
In Music/Art we will practice rhythms with instruments as we learn “Mary Mack” by Ella Jenkins. The children will also learn to listen and execute the movements to “All Around the Kitchen” from The Smithsonian Folkways Children’s Music Collection.
In Phonics/Language we will practice narration with “The Princess and the Pea” by Hans Christian Anderson. We will also practice sorting objects beginning with “O” and “P” into letter tubs.
