February 10-13

The children had a wonderful time last week playing in the snow and catching the large, beautiful snowflakes. We will read, “Snow is Falling” this week, and learn about how snow is good for plants, animals, and people. We will continue to read about insects, and learn that they are cold-blooded. We will place an insect in a cold environment and see how he is affected. We will also learn about exoskeletons and molting. In Social Studies we will play Knicker Box and blow bubbles as we learn about the children of the early settlers. We will read If You Were a Pioneer on the Prairie by Anne Kamma. In Music/Art the children will create valentine scratch art and valentine cards and decorate heart containers for their valentines. We are also planning to play “I Have a Valentine Just For You”, “Heart to My Friend”, and “Who Was So Kind?” and “Friend of Mine” in Music. In Bible, we will learn about God’s love for us as we read from Matthew 13 about the mustard seed and from Genesis 24 and 25 about Isaac and Rebekah. We will begin to learn and recite “Swallows Travel To and Fro” by Robert Louis Stevenson. Our Valentine Party will be this Thursday, February 13 from 3:00 to 3:30. Please send 18 Valentines marked with your child’s name to pass to friends. Please remember to bring the items for the party if you signed up in the hallway.
