February 19-21

Last week in Nature/Science the children had lots of fun as they dug for earthworms in the flowerbed at the front of the school. They were surprised to learn that earthworms have ten hearts and use their tails as a scoop to build up the soil. We also had a wonderful time at our Valentine party. Thanks to all who sent special goodies and valentines to exchange. This week in Nature/Science we will read about how seeds are dispersed by water and by wind. We will also read “Mr. Worm at Work” in our Christian Liberty Nature Reader” and learn to gently handle the earthworms in Nature Center. In Phonics/Language we will continue to act out “Little Red Riding Hood”. We will color and sing “Quilla Queen”. The children are doing a great job of reciting the first stanza of “The Wind” by Robert Louis Stevenson. We will begin to work on the second stanza this week. We will also make a P-I-N-K book. In Social Studies we will read about Christopher Columbus. The children will also paint and play with Joan of Arc paper dolls. In Math we will practice identifying pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters and group them with the appropriate number of candy hearts. In Bible we will read about the Last Supper. The children will also study what it means to be a soldier of light as we will play a game with a flashlight in circle to demonstrate God’s power. In Music/Art we will move to “The Dragon Dance” from Castles, Knights, and Unicorns. We will also continue to work on our picture study of “The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne” by Leonardo da Vinci.
