November 5-8
Last week, the children had fun decorating pumpkins together and playing special games for prizes at their party. We also read Pumpkin, Pumpkin, cut open, and examined a pumpkin, and went out to the garden to look at the pumpkin vine that is growing and blooming.
This week we are planning to paint and sequence the life cycle of the pumpkin, and read It’s Pumpkin Time. We will also learn about the parts of a flower, dissect a rose blossom, and identify the parts. We will practice narration with When Autumn Comes and talk about the seasons.
In Phonics/Language we reviewed our letters A through H as we played “Find It” and “Toss It” with the Explode the Code objects. We will dot paint the letters G and H and play Hopscotch together. We will sing and color an O-R-A-N-G-E book and practice sorting blue and orange magnetic objects in circle. The children will also work to color and identify their red, yellow, blue, and orange color words.
In Social Studies, we will begin to learn about the Indians as we practice narration with The Land of Gray Wolf. We will also learn about the Pilgrims as we read “The Pilgrims” and “On the Mayflower” from If You Sailed on the Mayflower in 1620.
In Bible, we will talk about what it means to be thankful, and read “Marta’s Blessing”, “We Are a Family”, and “Trust in God” from Helping Hands. We will also learn about how Jesus fed the Five Thousand, and we will sing songs of thanksgiving together.
Our Thanksgiving Feast will be next Thursday, November 13. Grandparents are invited to attend. There will be a sign up sheet in the hall for the feast, and we need your help to provide food for the children and grandparents. The children will recite the poem that they have been learning and sing their Thanksgiving songs at the feast.
