November 12-15
In Social Studies this week we will learn about the Pilgrims as we read excerpts from If You Sailed on the Mayflower in 1620. We’re planning to take a trip on the Mayflower and sample foods that the Pilgrims might have eaten. We will also read The Buffalo Nickel, The Very First Thanksgiving, and Rainbow Crow.
In Art/Music the children will create Indian headbands and necklaces and wear them as we perform a “rain dance” together. We’re planning to make placemats for the feast and picture frames to give to our grandparents. We will also sing “Land of the Silver Birch”, “My Work is Never Done”, and “It’s November”, and practice our recitation of “The Hayloft” by Robert Louis Stevenson.
In Nature/Science we will visit the Nature Room and read about turtles. We will also read “Flower Families” in Exploring Creation.
Our Thanksgiving Feast will be this Thursday, November 15, and grandparents are invited to attend and eat with us. Dr. Flint will speak to the grandparents at 11:00, and the children will perform about 11:30 in our classroom after her speech.
