October 1-4
Last week, the children had a lot of fun as they sang the “Thumbelina” song and danced with their tiny finger puppets.
This week in Phonics/Language we will begin to learn and sing Nursery Rhymes such as “Hickory Dickory Dock”, “Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater”, “Baa Baa Black Sheep”, and “To Market, To Market”. The children will act out “Humpty Dumpty” and “Jack and Jill”. We will create a B-L-U-E book, and we will play a magnetic matching game with yellow and blue pictures and color words. We will color and sing “Daisy Doll” and practice tracing the letter, “D”.
In Social Studies, we will read “On the March” and “Guarding the Frontier” as we continue to learn about the people of the Middle Ages. We’re also planning to create Roman shields this week.
In Nature/Science, we will learn about seeds. We will read about Testas, and examine a sunflower seed, a lima bean, and an acorn to locate the helium. We will practice opening seeds and try to identify the 5 main parts. We are planning to visit the perennial garden with our little scissors to collect seed pods. We will plant radish seeds into the garden. The children will also visit the Nature Room, and we will read “The Crab and His House” from our Christian Liberty Nature Reader as we spend time observing the Hermit Crabs and other creatures that God has created for us to enjoy.
In Bible, we will read about the miracles of Jesus in Mark 2 and Luke 5. We will also read about how Jesus called his Disciples in Mark 3.
In Music, the children will practice moving gracefully with scarves as they follow directions to “Castle Flags” from “Castles, Knights, and Unicorns” (CD).
Please remember to send a snack for snack time each day and place it in your child’s basket in the hall. You may also send an extra drink or water bottle.
