September 4-6
Welcome to our class. We’re planning many interesting activities for our first week together.
In Nature/Science, the children will learn the meaning of the word “botany” as we begin our study of plants. We will learn about how the plants of the world magnify the Lord, and we will visit the garden to get a close-up view of God’s creation with our little magnifying glasses. We will also read “The Ant” in our Christian Liberty Nature Reader. The children will observe our own little colony of ants in Science Center as they go about creating their little tunnels in the “Ant Farm”.
In Bible, we will read Genesis 1: 11-13 and learn that God created plants on the third day of creation. We will read from Luke 1 about how John the Baptist was born and create a little book. We will read about how the angel Gabriel visits Mary, and learn about the birth of Jesus.
In Phonics/Language we will read “The Ant and the Grasshopper” and “Androcles and the Lion” from Aesop’s Fables. The children will practice narration with “The Ant and the Grain of Wheat” from Fables of Leonardo da Vinci. They will learn to identify the color red as they create a R-E-D book and sing R-E-D in circle. We will play a magnetic color matching game and work on the color words “red” and “yellow” in circle. We will also learn the names of all our new friends as we play and sing the “Hi and Hello” game.
In Math we will dot paint the number one and practice identifying our numbers 1 thru 20. The children will create a number 1 with playdoh and practice making ones on their little chalkboards. We’re also planning to do “Ant Math”. The children will follow directions to add and subtract their “ants” (raisins) from the “ant tunnels”.
In Music, we will learn a new warm up exercise. The children will sing and march to “The Ants Go Marching”. They will also follow directions to “What Are You
Wearing” from “Two Little Sounds” by Hap Palmer.
Please be sure to include a complete change of clothing (including socks) in your child’s backpack each day. Also, please send a sleeping bag or mat to rest on, and a pillow and blanket if desired.
