September 17-20
This week in Nature/Science we will learn about Non-Vascular plants and perform an experiment to demonstrate how non-vascular plants (such as moss and lichens) absorb water. The children will examine the moss and create sketches of the specimen. They will collect flowers and leaves from a morning glory vine that is growing on the playground and paint a picture together. We are also planning to plant broccoli, beets, and lettuce into the garden.
In Phonics/Language we will practice narration with Goldilocks and the Three Bears and sequence the story on the chalkboard. We will act out the story with props on Thursday. The children will color and sing “Benjamin Bunny” and practice tracing the letter “B”. They will work with opposites, rhyming words, color words, and beginning sounds. We will also welcome a new Beta Fish into our class and learn that Beta begins with “B”.
In Math, the children will dot paint the #3. We will create AB and ABB patterns with little bears. We’re also planning to go out to the garden, count the eggplant, and then attempt to create a painting of the plants on the easel with the correct number of vegetables.
In Social Studies, we will read about the City Life and Country Life of Ancient Rome. The children will learn about the Colosseum and create a Colosseum Zoetrope to spin together.
In Bible, we will learn about how Jesus visited the Temple as a child (Luke 2). We will also read about the baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3).
We are planning a Field Trip to Green Meadows Petting Farm on Thursday, October 19. Please return the permission slip and admission fee by this Thursday, and let us know whether you will be going with us. The admission fee is $10.00 for children and adults.
