In Social Studies this week we will read “The Wooden Horse” from Ancient Myths and Legends. Many of the children want a chance to act out different characters from the story. We will sequence the story and continue our performance in the Centers Room this week.
In Nature/Science we will introduce the lever and fulcrum as we begin to learn about simple machines. We will read The Five Senses as we begin to study our Five Senses, and use our senses of touch as we work with Montessori Thermic Exercises. The children will also collect and press flowers for their Nature Journals.
In Music/Art we are planning to practice listening quietly as we fingerpaint to Chopin’s “Impromptu No.4, Op.66”. We will listen and move to “Wiggles, Giggles, and Jiggles” by Stephen Fite. We will also listen to a Social Story (book, CD) entitled, “Talking Loudly and Softly”.
In Phonics/Language the children will create a little book entitled I Can Rhyme using the Phonemic Awareness stamps. They will also practice identifying rhyming words as we read The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.
