February 27-March 1

This week in Nature/Science we will read about Metamorphic rocks. The children will examine and draw a picture of a Metamorphic rock (epidote). We will also visit the garden and look for changes (buds, flowers, new growth). The children will use their little scissors to trim away dead plant materials, seed pods, and twigs. We will also work on pulling weeds and getting the garden ready for planting.
In Bible we will read Clifford’s Good Deeds and talk about kindness. We will read “Gideon Chooses His Helpers” from The Bible in Pictures (Judges 7: 2-7).
In Social Studies we will practice narration with “The Horse” and “Doom is Near” from The Trojan Horse: How the Greeks Won the War.
In Phonics/Language we will read “The Glunck that got Thunk” by Dr. Seuss and use our “Thinker Uppers” to identify the rhyming words. The children will practice sorting objects beginning with “t” and “u” into letter tubs and practice forming the letters with playdoh. We will also listen to The Adventures of Tom Thumb (book, tape).
In Art/Music the children will use action words and draw pictures to create a Rebus Chart Song. They will follow the actions to the repetitive melody of “You Gotta Sing” by Raffi. The children will also practice balloon dancing as they float slowly to Chopin’s Nocturne No. 8 in D Flat Major, Op.27 No.2.
