This week in Social Studies we will read “Daily Life in Greece” from The Atlas of the Classical World. The children will use the Greek alphabet to paste and create their names.
In Nature/Science the children will begin a rock investigation. They will clean and inspect a rock that they have discovered outside and examine it with a hand lens. They will attempt to draw it after determining the color and texture. We will read What are Rocks and Finding Rocks.
In Math the children will practice counting and matching pennies to the correct number as we play “Pitching Pennies”. They will also create a “p” with a penny stamp.
In Phonics/Language we will continue to read and narrate Stone Soup. In the story, 3 hungry soldiers visit a town and announce that they can make a wonderful soup from stones. The peasants and children come forward to help. We are planning to act out the story this week. We will make our Stone Soup next week.
In Music the children will practice their left-sided and right-sided movements by performing a series of directional activities. They will learn to do a line dance together called “The Boogie Walk”. We will also continue to practice the motions to “Sodeo” by Raffi.
In Bible we will read “The Walls Fall Down” from The Bible in Pictures and read from Joshua 6: 1-20.
We are planning a field trip to the Planetarium at UTA on February 2 at 10:30. The admission price is $4.00 for children and adults. Please let us know if you will be able to accompany us.
