January 17-19

Last week, the children did a great job of cutting the snowflakes for their snowflake wands. This week they will finish decorating them. They will use them in Creative Movement as we move to “Douglas Mountain” by Raffi.
This week in Social Studies we will read about school days in ancient Greece and learn about the Greek alphabet. We will also read “Ulysses and the Cyclops” from Ancient Myths and Legends and paint a picture of a Cyclops.
In Nature/Science we will read Snowflakes and Snow is Falling, and the children will take turns showing their snowflakes that they have created in circle. We will also read If You Found A Rock and look for Sedimentary Rocks on the playground to place in our Nature Center.
In Phonics/Language we will begin to read and narrate Stone Soup. We will make an Oatmeal “O” and the children will take turns mixing and making oatmeal cookies together.
In Bible we will read “Joshua’s Men are Helped by a Lady” (Joshua 2: 1-15) and “God Makes the River Stop Flowing" (Joshua 3: 13-17). The children have been doing a wonderful job of listening during the stories and answering the critical thinking questions at the end of each story.
