February 6-9

This week in Nature/Science we will read Rocks from Fire and learn about igneous rocks. The children will continue their rock investigations with the rock that they have chosen. They will perform a scratch test on a tile to determine the true color of their rocks. They will also test the hardness of their rocks and check to see whether they will sink or float.
We are planning to work on our Valentine holders in Art/Music this week. One of our favorite songs is “Douglas Mountain”. The song speaks of “trimming the wicks on Douglas Mountain, so God can bring the night”. We explained to the children that “trimming the wicks” referred to candle making. We will begin to work on making candles this week. We will sing and play “Mary Finds a Friend” (a valentine game) and “I Have a Valentine Just For You” in Music this week. We will also begin to recite “The Woodpecker” by Elizabeth M. Roberts.
In Social Studies we will read about Cyrus the Great and paint his picture.
In Bible we will read about the Gibbonites (Joshua 9:1-27) and conquering Canaan.
Our Valentine party will be on February 14 at 3:00. Please send 14 signed valentines for your child to pass into the valentine holders. They don’t need to have the names of the children that they are for, but please have them ready to pass. If you haven’t yet ordered a balloon for the party, please turn in your order to Tara.
