March 23-26

This week in Nature/Science we are planning to read about Sand Dollars and Sea Cucumbers in Exploring Creation.  We will also introduce the prism and learn about how Sir Isaac Newton experimented with prisms.  The children will perform an experiment with a prism, and we will use a prism with printed patterns to demonstrate reflection and refraction.  We will also play Wildflower Bingo, and observe, paint, and plant a Bluebonnet.
In Phonics/Language we will practice Narration with The Tale of Jemima Puddle Duck by Beatrix Potter.  We will also read “Shortcut to a Dead End” and “Showdown at the Smokehouse” from Adventures in the Big Thicket.

In Math, we are planning to practice measurement with rods and Unifix cubes.
The children will work on painting Crosses in Art this week.  In Music, we will begin to learn “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” and “Easter Parade”.
In Social Studies, we will continue to learn about Community Helpers as we read Vicky the Vet, Going to the Doctor, Going to the Dentist, and excerpts from What People Do.  We have a special Veterinarian Center in our classroom this week.  The children may bring a stuffed animal to use in the center.

We are planning an Easter Egg Hunt for Wednesday, April 1.  Please send 12 filled plastic eggs, and secure them by taping them shut.  They may also bring an Easter basket for the hunt.  There will be a sign up sheet for the party in the hall.
