April 7-10
Last week in Nature/Science, the children witnessed the metamorphosis of our pupa and were very excited when the adult beetle emerged from the pupa exoskeleton. This week we will observe the exploratory behavior of our beetle and discuss it in circle. We will read “Beetles, Flies, and True Bugs” and “Beetle Behavior” in Exploring Creation. We will also plant peppers into the garden.
In Social Studies we will continue to learn about Lewis and Clark as we read Through the Wilderness.
In Art the children will create and decorate Easter egg picture frames. They will also practice sketching a Geranium.
In Phonics/Language we will practice narration with The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. We will sort objects beginning with the letters u and v into letter tubs. We will also continue to practice our recitation of “Foreign Lands” by Robert Louis Stevenson and practice a fingerplay entitled “Jesus Rose”.
In Math we will practice AB and ABAB patterns with eggs.
In Music we will practice singing “You Are My Sunshine”. We will listen to a story about Tubby and Tuba and compare the sounds of various instruments from “Danny Kaye sings Hans Christian Anderson”. We will also play and sing “Little Lost Duck” and “Will You Be A Bunny For Me”.
Noah’s father will share the Torah Scroll with us on Tuesday that he is planning to take to Belgium. We will be reading from the Book of Exodus this week in the Bible.
We will read Sarah Morton’s Day (a day in the life of a pilgrim girl) as we prepare for our field trip to the Log Cabin Village this Thursday. Please bring a lunch in a lunchbox with a cold pack. We are planning to have a picnic at Trinity Park after our visit to the Log Cabin Village. Please return your field trip permission slip with $3.00 admission by Wednesday. We will meet at the school at 8:45 and depart at 9:00.
