January 21-23

This week in Nature/Science we will learn about the Quetzalcoatlus, the largest of the Pteranodons. We will also read about how sound travels and do an experiment to demonstrate how sound waves move. In Social Studies we will read about how the Dutch purchased Manhattan Island from the Lenape Indians. We will also learn about New Amsterdam and read about Peter Stuyvesant. In Art, we will begin a new picture study of the Eastern Bluebird by James Audubon. We will also continue to work on our paintings fro Barnes and Noble. In Bible we will work on our Fruits of the Spirit: Gentleness and Self Control. We will read “Wisdom at School” from A Child’s Book of Character Building. The guinea pigs will visit our classroom this week, and we will practice gentleness with them. We will also listen to a social story entitled, “Use Your Words”. Our artwork will be displayed at Barnes and Noble this Thursday from 4 to 7. The children will recite “Nest Eggs” by Robert Louis Stevenson and sing a song. Please let us know whether you will be able to attend. We are planning a field trip on Wednesday, January 29th, to see “The Probably Untrue Story”, an interactive performance for children by The Dallas Symphony Orchestra (located at 2301 Flora Street). The admission price is $6.00 per person. The performance begins at 10.00.
