October 14-17

This week in Nature/Science we will learn about feathers as we read “Birds of a Feather”, “Molting”, “Feather Color”, and “Bird Baths” in Exploring Creation.  We are planning to label the parts of a feather.  We will also do an experiment with birdbaths to try to determine which one is “The Best Bird Bath”.  We will begin to learn about owls.  We will read “An Owl” from our Christian Liberty Nature Reader.  We are also planning to plant carrot seeds in the garden.
In Social Studies, we will begin to learn about the Indians.  We will read an excerpt from Children of the Earth and Sky and The Legend of the Bluebonnet.
In Bible, we will learn about The Fruit of the Spirit: Kindness as we read from Ephesians 4:32.  We will read “Tenderhearted in the Bible” and “Tenderhearted at School” from A Child’s Book of Character Building.  The children will also work on a little book entitled “Show You Understand”.
In Phonics/Language, we will begin to recite Nursery Rhymes.  We will learn “Humpty Dumpty”, “Hickory Dickory Dock”, “Baa Baa Black Sheep”, and “Hey Diddle Diddle”.  We will act out “Jack and Jill”.  We are also planning to act out “The Three Billy Goats Gruff”.
In Art / Music, the children will draw and use sponge paint to create little owls.  We will also work on rhythms as we play a Parachute game called “Listen to the Beat”.
Our field trip to the Country Critters Farm will be on Thursday, October 24.  The admission for children and adults is $7.00.  Please turn in your field trip money to
Mrs. Hague by Thursday, October 17th.
