May 6-9

This week in Nature/Science the children will finish classifying the leaves that they collected and pressed last week. We will read “The Role of Trees in Creation” in Exploring Creation and think about all of the things that come from trees. We will also learn about how the trees are important for the animals. We will visit the garden with our clipboards and practice sketching flowers. We will also read You Taste With Your Tongue this week. Please send something sweet, salty, sour, or bitter for your child to share with friends during our tasting activity this Thursday, May 9. In Social Studies, we will read about Medieval clothing in Knights and Castles. We will also listen to a reading of “King Henry’s Archery Match” from Robin Hood. In Phonics/Language, we are planning to finish narration with Jack and the Beanstalk and act out the story with props. The children will use their critical thinking skills to group things that are similar. They will practice sorting objects that begin with x and y into letter tubs and practice forming the letters on their little chalkboards. We will also practice our rhyming sounds by using the Phonemic Awareness Stamps. In Bible, we will learn about the Shield of Faith as part of our study of the Armor of God. The children will take turns naming a problem that they have encountered, and then move behind the Shield of Faith. We will learn about the faith of Job as we read “Whatever Happens, Job Still Loves God” and “Job is Now Well and Happy Again” from The Bible in Pictures. In Music we will read about Medieval Festivals, and the children will practice rhythms with instruments as we listen to “A Very Wonderful Royal Feast” from “Castles, Knights, and Unicorns”. Our Medieval Field Day is this Thursday, May 9, at 12:30. We hope that you will be able to join us for lots of fun and fellowship!
