March 18-21
This week in Nature/Science we are planning to read about fleshy and dry fruits and their seeds. Please send a fruit with seeds, or a nut, a pod, an achene (sunflower seed with shell, strawberry), a follicle (magnolia), or a legume for your child to share and examine on Thursday. We are also planning to read The Little Rabbit, and learn about rabbits this week. We will visit the Nature Room, and the children will take turns feeding the rabbits. We will create a sketch of a geranium, and plant geraniums into the flower bed at the front of the school. We will also be observing the radish seeds that are sprouting in our Light Hut.
In Social Studies, we will read about Gutenberg’s printing press and practice printing with potatoes.
In Music/Art, we will sing “Here Comes Peter Cottontail”, “Easter Parade”, “Easter Bunny”, and “Picking Up Easter Eggs”. The children will play a game called “Mr. McGregor’s Garden”. We are also planning to create bunny masks that we will use when we act out The Tale of Peter Rabbit next week.
In Phonics/Language, we are planning to review our letters L through S as we play “What Am I Thinking Of?” with the Explode the Code objects. The children will color and sing “Silly Snake”, and work to cut snakes and string in cutting center. We will practice narration with The Tale of Peter Rabbit. We will also sequence the story.
In Bible, we will read from the book of Genesis about Abram and Sarai and how their trust in God was like a breastplate to protect their hearts. God promised that Abram’s descendants would be like the stars in the sky. The children will use a flashlight to shine their “stars” all around the room as we read from the Bible and learn about the Armor of God.
Our Easter Party will be on Thursday, March 28 at 2:00. Please send an Easter basket and 16 filled plastic eggs secured with tape for hiding. There will be a sign up sheet for the party posted in the hall.
