April 23-26

This week in Nature/Science we will continue to explore our senses of hearing. The children will make a sound cannon, create a yogurt cup telephone, and play a game called “sound source”. We will read about pulleys as part of our study of simple machines. We will create a moveable pulley to perform an experiment called “pulling power.” We are planning to harvest beets from our garden this week. The children will also create a sketch of an orchid for their Nature Journals. In Math we will work with weight and measurement. The children will practice estimating and measuring with unifix cubes and rods. In Bible we will read “King David” and “The Golden Ark is Brought Home” from The Bible in Pictures. In Phonics/Language we will practice narration with “The Poor Wandering Cowboy” from Tenggren’s Cowboys and Indians. We will also play “Let’s Go Hunting” with the letters a through i using the Explode the Code objects. In Social Studies we will read Texas Zeke and the Longhorn, and L is for Lonestar. The children will create a bandanna for Texas Field Day. Please send $10.00 by tomorrow to help cover the cost of food and activities (we are planning to have a petting zoo). Parents are invited to eat with us at 12:30 and enjoy the activities with their children.
