April 20-23


This week in Nature/Science we will read about Water worms, Flatworms, and Bristle worms in Exploring Creation.  The children will create a sculpture of a tubeworm.  We are also planning to plant tomatoes and squash into the garden.

In History, we will read Texas Jack at the Alamo.  We will also read from When Texas Was a Republic and learn about the Texas Rangers, The Indians, and everyday life in the Republic.
 In Art, the children will sketch the Comfrey in the Perennial Garden, paint an Indian Paintbrush, and spend time creating a picture of Guinea Pigs.

In Phonics/Language we will practice narration with The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush and The Legend of the Bluebonnet and compare the stories.  We will also review our letters a through v by playing See It/Say It with Explode the Code objects.
We are planning a field trip to The Grapevine Sea Life Aquarium on May 14.  We will leave the school at 9:15.  Admission is $7.00 for children and $10.00 for adults.  I will last from 10:30 to 12:00, and we are planning to eat at the Food Court afterward.

April 13-16


This week in Phonics/Language we will practice narration with Texas Zeke and the Longhorn.  We will also read “The Skinflint” from Texas Aesop’s Fables.  The children will also sort objects beginning with T and U into letter tubs and play a game to review their letters a through u with objects from the Primary Phonics Chart. 

In Nature/Science we will read about Sponges and Sea Squirts and do an experiment to demonstrate Desalination.  We will also plant peppers into the garden.

In Art we are planning to paint a Texas Longhorn, make a Texas flag, and sketch the roses at the front of the school.
In History we will learn the Texas Pledge and paint a Map of Texas.  We will read about Texas Longhorns and cattle drives, and read about the city of Tyler with roses and pecan trees.
In Bible we will read “Manna, Quail and Water,” “God’s Rules,” and “Twelve Spies” in The Beginner’s Bible.  We will also read from Exodus 20 about the Ten Commandments.

April 7-9


  The children did a great job of reciting their poem and singing at Barnes and Noble.  Thanks to all who are able to come and support the school.   If you weren’t able to attend, your child’s artwork is still available to purchase.  It is their version of Picasso’s Bouquet of Peace, and is a framed acrylic on canvas.
In Phonics/Language, we will practice narration with “The Frog’s Unfortunate Fortune” and “Helping Gus Pack His Alligator Bags” from Adventure’s in the Big Thicket.  We will also play “Toss It” with the objects (A through

 S) from the Primary Phonics ABC chart.

  In Science we will read “Sea Anemones” and “Corals” in Exploring Creation.  We will also read Life in A Coral Reef.

 Our Perennial Garden has begun to sprout and bloom.  We are planning to spend time in the garden observing and sketching the Texas Betany and the Pincushion Plant.  We are also planning to harvest the beets that we planted last September in our vegetable garden. 

In Music, the children will play “Merry-Go-Round” with the Parachute.

In Bible, we will begin to read about the Passover in The Beginner’s Bible.

In History we will read “On the Road” and “Factories” in Great Inventions of the 20th Century. 

March 30-April 2


 This week in Phonics/Language we will practice narration with The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter.  We will also read “The King of the Crawdads” from Adventures in the Big Thicket and Snow Rabbit, Spring Rabbit.


 In Nature/Science, we are planning to do an experiment and attempt to create salt crystals.  We will read “Jellyfish” and “Floating Boxes” in Exploring Creation. The children will plant Snapdragons into the flower bed at the front of the school, and we will harvest turnips from the garden.

  In Art, the children will narrate The Tale of Peter Rabbit by drawing a picture.  They will also make bunny necklaces, sketch snapdragons, and create a jellyfish.

 In Math, we will measure a bunny with Unifix cubes and create patterns with eggs.

 In History, we will learn about how wheels, cars, and skateboards were invented.  We will also read about Firefighters.

In Bible, we will read about the death and resurrection of our Savior in The Bible in Pictures. We will also read Easter in the Garden.
Our Easter Party will be on Wednesday, April 1, at 3:00.  Be sure to send an Easter basket and 12 filled eggs for your child. Parents are welcome to attend and join us for the hunt.  We will be performing at Barnes and Noble at 4:30 on Thursday.  The children’s artwork will be displayed, and they are very excited about it.  Please join us for fun and fellowship this week.

March 23-26


 
This week in Nature/Science we are planning to read about Sand Dollars and Sea Cucumbers in Exploring Creation.  We will also introduce the prism and learn about how Sir Isaac Newton experimented with prisms.  The children will perform an experiment with a prism, and we will use a prism with printed patterns to demonstrate reflection and refraction.  We will also play Wildflower Bingo, and observe, paint, and plant a Bluebonnet.
In Phonics/Language we will practice Narration with The Tale of Jemima Puddle Duck by Beatrix Potter.  We will also read “Shortcut to a Dead End” and “Showdown at the Smokehouse” from Adventures in the Big Thicket.

In Math, we are planning to practice measurement with rods and Unifix cubes.
The children will work on painting Crosses in Art this week.  In Music, we will begin to learn “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” and “Easter Parade”.
In Social Studies, we will continue to learn about Community Helpers as we read Vicky the Vet, Going to the Doctor, Going to the Dentist, and excerpts from What People Do.  We have a special Veterinarian Center in our classroom this week.  The children may bring a stuffed animal to use in the center.

We are planning an Easter Egg Hunt for Wednesday, April 1.  Please send 12 filled plastic eggs, and secure them by taping them shut.  They may also bring an Easter basket for the hunt.  There will be a sign up sheet for the party in the hall.
