This week in Nature/Science we will learn about the seasons as we listen to The Lonely Scarecrow (book, CD). Were planning to cut open a pumpkin and examine it. The children will watercolor sequencing cards of the Pumpkin Lifecycle and practice placing them in order. We will read It's Pumpkin Time. We will also read about the dwarf planet, Pluto.
In Art/Music the children will practice weaving to create a pumpkin. They will paint and decorate the pumpkins that they purchased at Green's. We will sing "Pick a Pumpkin", "I'm a Little Pumpkin",
"5 Little Pumpkins", and "Pumpkin, Pumpkin". The children are doing great with the first two stanzas of "The Moon" by Robert Louis Stevenson. We will begin to learn the third stanza this week. We have also been working on remembering to say "please" when asking for a color of instrument and then asking politely using the appropriate words. We will continue to work with rhythm sticks this week.
In Phonics/Language the children will practice narration with The Biggest Pumpkin Ever. They will act out Little Miss Muffet. They will also color, cut out, and complete sequences for "Hey, Diddle Diddle", "Humpty Dumpty" and "Little Miss Muffet".
In Math the children will practice counting and grouping pumpkin seeds and creating AB and ABB patterns with pumpkins and gourds.
