Last week the children had fun flying their kites and discovering how far their paper airplanes would fly on a windy day.
This week in Nature/Science we will read Things that Go, Getting Around, and Freight Train as we continue our study of Air, Land, and Water. The children will work with aquadoodle pens to create train tracks for Thomas the Train and work with train tracks in building center. We will also read Short Train, Long Train and work at building short and long things. Our peas have grown bigger, and are ready to pick and shell. We will shell peas, cook them, and taste them this week as we learn about our Sense of Taste. We will read You Taste With Your Tongue.
In Social Studies we will read Our Texas as we begin to learn about the history of Texas. We will pretend to travel aroud Texas and visit the sites of the Texas Revolution. We will also read "They Coyote and the Crane" from Texas Aesop's Fables.
In Math we will count and group peas and weigh them on the scale. We will work with comparing weights of objects in our math books this week.
In Phonics/Language we will read and narrate Tiggers Don't Climb Trees. We will make and sing Foxy Roxy as we learn the letter "X". We'll dot paint X's and continue to work at making X's on graph paper.
In Music we will continue to learn new movements with the parachute. The children will learn to execute the "Snap" movement and the "Flip Flop" motion. We will practice "Balloon Float" to the count of four with Mozart's Horn Concerto No.2 in E Flat Major. The children will also pretend to be trains in Creative Movement and move through an obstacle course with tunnels as we sing with Raffi's version of "New River Train". We will also practice the third stanza of "Where Go the Boats" by Robert Louis Stevenson.
In Gardening the children will practice identifying and matching leaves as we learn the names of plants in the atrium. We will collect and press the leaves for our nature journal. We will also read There's An Opossum In My Backyard.
