This week in Nature/Science will will learn the characteristics of Mammals and read about Farm Animals. We will study about how animals can be useful to us and sequence the steps taken to bring milk from the farm to our homes. We will read On the Farm, To Market, To Market (on tape), Moses the Kitten, Mammals, and "Farmers Giles's Goats" from Classic Animal Stories.
We will continue to read and act out Nursery Rhymes. We are planning to act out The Three Little Pigs and the Three Bears with props. We will also read, "Little Bo Peep", "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep", "Hey, Diddle, Diddle" and "Little Boy Blue".
In Music we will play and sing "The Farmer and the Dell". We will learn and act out the motions to "The Seed Cycle" and "Oats, Peas, Beans, and Barley Grow". We will also practice our rhythms with rhythm sticks as we move to "The Leaf Song" and "Autumn Leaves".
In Math we will practice AB and ABB patterns with large and small acorns, and we will count and group acorns. We will also play Barnyard Bingo.
In Social Studies we will read and narrate "The Appleseed Man" from Johnny Appleseed. In this passage, Johnny is taking care of his orchard and and watching the seedlings grow into apple trees. He is also helping the pioneers and giving them seedlings, apples,honey, and advice.
We will plant peas and beets in our garden this week. We will also observe and draw Zinnias in our perennial garden.
