Tuesday, February 23-26

This week we will learn about the Alamo and Heroes of Texas in Social Studies. We will learn about Stephen F. Austin, William B. Travis, Davy Crockett, Sam Houston, and how they fought for Texas. We will make a pretend campfire on the playground and sing our campfire songs. We will finish sewing our stick horses this week and have a rodeo where we will lasso a steer, “trick” the bull, and have relays with our stick horses. We will read a tall tale about Little Old Big Beard, and we will read Cowboy Camp, T is for Texas, and Armadillo Rodeo.
In Phonics, we will learn our letter s and sing “Silly Snake”. We will practice matching beginning and ending sounds with stamps and sorting objects beginning with R S into letter tubs.
We will continue to learn about our Five Senses as we begin to explore our sense of smell. We will collect herbs and other items from the garden and playground to create a sachet. We will introduce a lesson with Montessori materials to compare and match smells. We will also play a Hide and Smell game.
In Bible we are learning about our Fruit of the Spirit, Love. This week our lesson is David and Jonathan. We will make a friendship collage by cutting out magazine pictures with our friends as we talk about love. We will have a puppet show on Thursday about love called, “Play Ball”.
In Nature we will learn about Blue Jays. We will read about Blue Jays in our Burgess Bird Book and learn about bird’s feathers by reading “ The Best Coat” and “The Bird’s Coat” in our Christian Liberty Nature Reader. We will also read, “Blue Jays” form Johnny and the Birds. On Thursday, we will send a baggie home with the children. Please help your child to become aware of things that “smell” and choose one to share with the class on Monday.
